A new personal project. Most architects design their own house, or office. I’ve never been able to do that, just never felt right.
Apparently instead of that, I’ve chosen to develop a commercial property in my small town in the desert, Ocotillo, CA, USA. The plan is to do something to benefit this community, which I love.
I’ve purchased a commercial parcel in the center of town, and plan to convert it to a boutique art gallery and art studio space, focused on local artists and this beautiful desert. I’ve discovered there are so many creative people in this amazing valley.
The existing structure on the site is a shit show. Its been terribly neglected for very many years. The grounds are the same. It will be alot of work to turn this around. Major cleanup project.
However, the bones are good. The history is good. The vibe is good. The last use of the property was a ceramic art studio, by a talented artist. I personally have a couple of her pieces in my home.
Stay tuned to watch the transformation of this very sad property, to a joyful new beginning for a community.

Another Visit At Arcosanti
Paolo Soleri was a visionary. His concepts from the 1950s which he worked toward his entire life, are as valid now as ever. Arcology - the blending of architecture and ecology as a way for mankind to move into the future in harmony with nature, and with each other. With his own hands, and with apprentices, he started building the first prototype, Arcosanti in 1970. His vision of mega-cities where the personal automobile is not needed, and all needs are obtained locally, is I believe how we are going to have to end up, eventually. He was just way ahead of his time, and the idea just too big to fit into the corporate for profit world we live in. Click his name above to learn more about this pivotal figure in 20th century architecture, and one who should have been taken seriously, but now I think the time is more than ripe for his concepts to be looked at much more carefully.
